Collision Detection for Rigid Bodies: A State of the Art Review

چکیده
Virtual reality applications refer to the use of computers to simulate a physical environment in such a way that humans can readily visualize, explore, and interact with “objects” in this environment. The design of virtual scenes requires realistic physically based simulation algorithms and in particular efficient collision detection routines. Collision detection prevent penetrations between objects. This paper presents an overview of the collision detection procedures for rigid bodies. It divides those procedures in two families that form a general hybrid collision detection algorithm. The first family is used in the first phase known as broad phase that roughly detects collision. The second family is used in the second one known as narrow phase that exactly detects if collision occurs.

Collision Detection and Response for Computer Animation
When several objects are moved about by computer animarion, there is the chance that they will interpenetrate. This is often an undesired state, particularly if the animation is seeking to model a realistic world. Two issues are involved: detecting that a collision has occurred, and responding to it. The former is fundamentally a kinematic problem, involving the positional relationship of objec...
متن کاملFast Continuous Collision Detection between Rigid Bodies
This paper introduces a fast continuous collision detection technique for polyhedral rigid bodies. As opposed to most collision detection techniques, the computation of the first contact time between two objects is inherently part of the algorithm. The method can thus robustly prevent objects interpenetrations or collisions misses, even when objects are thin or have large velocities. The method...
متن کاملImproving performance of rigid body dynamics simulation by removing inaccessible regions from geometric models
Rigid body simulations require collision detection for determining contact points between simulated bodies. Collision detection performance can become dramatically slow, if geometric models of rigid bodies have intricate inaccessible regions close to their boundaries, particularly when bodies are in close proximity. As a result, frame rates of rigid body simulations reduce significantly in the ...
متن کاملCollision detection between geometric models: a survey
In this paper, we survey the state of the art in collision detection between general geometric models. The set of models include polygonal objects, spline or algebraic surfaces, CSG models, and deformable bodies. We present a number of techniques and systems available for contact determination. We also describe several N-body algorithms to reduce the number of pairwise intersection tests.
متن کاملImplementation of interaction between soft tissues and foreign bodies using modified voxel model
Interactive bodies collision detection and elimination is one of the most popular task nowadays. Collisions can be detected in different ways. Collision search using space voxelization is one of the most fast. This paper describes improved voxel model that covers only area of collision interest and quickly eliminates collisions. This new method can be useful in real time collision processing of...
